What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a natural found resource that was frequently used in construction prior to the 1990s. It was popular because of its resistance to heat, chemicals and electricity. Eventually multiple studies linked asbestos exposure to cancer development and it's popularity declined. The cancer that develops is mesothelioma and chances of development increase depending on the amount of inhaled asbestos fibers. Asbestosis can also develop. Asbestosis is the scarring of the lung tissue from fiber exposure. Symptoms of asbestos exposure usually won't be noticed until 20-30 years after the first exposure. If your building was build prior to 1990, and hasn't been inspected, there is a strong possibility that your space contains asbestos— contact Finog Environmental today to schedule your asbestos inspection.

What is mold?

Mold spores naturally occur within our ecological system and are essential to the decomposition of various substances in the outdoor world. Mold spores thrive in moist environments and can cause continual problems to indoor spaces if left untreated. Buildings that have recently experienced leaks or other forms of water exposure are at a high risk for mold growth. Mold has the potential to spread allergens, irritants and toxins that can affect individuals in the building. Should you believe that your space has mold growth, contact Finog Environmental to schedule an inspection.

Should I panic if I find asbestos products in my home?

Should asbestos be discovered, you don't necessarily need to panic. If the source of the asbestos isn't damaged, it most likely isn't releasing asbestosis fibers. Action should be taken if the source is being remodeled, frequently interacted with or damaged. Materials that are being cut into or are damaged can easily release asbestosis fibers that can be inhaled. If you believe that your space is at risk of exposure, contact Finog Environmental and we can help you navigate professionally dealing with the asbestos.

In theory, it is possible to take samples of materials and find a lab to test the sample for asbestos. However, we recommend contacting Finog Environmental for professional expertise when it comes to sampling. We have the resources to quickly sample and test for asbestos in a safe fashion. Call us today to schedule an appointment.
